The Green Man

 I carved this green man out of cottonwood bark. I used a boot polish to seal it and the paint is oil. This is my first green man with oak leaves and acorns. I learned how to carve this by watching Alec Lacasse on his online course. The sealer and painting was during my attendance at the Lake Placid Art League in Florida. It was a lot of fun. 

Peeping Tom Cat

 These photos of my, " Peeping Tom Cat ", were taken at the Punta Gorda Fl wood art show in 2023. I received a first place ribbon for relief carving in the intermediate level. I also received a second place ribbon for " Best In Show "  intermediate level. My carving is of a cat peeping through a broken area of a wooden fence. The wood is Basswood. I used oil paint for the shading and the whiskers are broomcorn from a whisk broom. I belong to the Lake Placid Art League in Lake Placid Florida. As of late, we have a modest size group of carvers. We do have seasonal members, our friends from the north, and during the winter the seats fill up for wood carving. We also have a painting group that does very well year round.  Every now and then we offer classes for several other types of art medium. If you are ever in the area, look us up. Mouse Carving

This is a wine glass / bottle mouse. Carved from basswood, it sits on the rim of a glass or bottle. When I get a picture of it on a glass I will update this blog. 

 

"Cat in the window" relief carving

I am not finished painting yet. I am attempting to show the wood through the paint. It is working well with the stone wall background in this relief carving. I'm using oil paint and the wood is basswood. l got he idea for this carving from a brooch I came across. I will add a picture of the brooch to this post. The wall and branches with leaves, clinging to the wall, is my idea. I will update with pictures as soon as the project is completed. Thanks for looking.
